Sensitivity to lateral wind is one of the important factors in car handling, and final performance will be tested using wind generators in general. Several parameters for evaluating such behaviour have been suggested in papers done in the past. Among them, lateral deviation has been thought to be an important evaluator, because a car with smaller deviation when exposed to lateral wind disturbance is desirable for normal drivers. Response parameters which characterize vehicle dynamic beaviour under lateral wind disturbance have been studied in association with a simplified geometrical model. Comparisons between the full-scale experiment and calculations by the model have been made and the results show that the peak and average values of yaw velocity and the average value of lateral acceleration coincide with lateral deviation.
