The possibility offered by Superplastic Forming of permitting single operation forming of very complex details normally obtained through assembling numerous components is attracting the attention of many industrial sectors, for example, the automotive industry. The modelling of SPF forming processes represents an analytical tool capable of optimising process parameters by following the forming evolution to minimise undesirable effects and to improve tool design. This paper presents the results of setting up a Finite Elements Method (FEM) analysis for the blow forming process developed at the University of Cassino (Italy), with particular attention being paid to the evaluation of thinning. As a whole, the results of this study confirm the general validity of the use of general purpose FEM software for modelling blow forming to evaluate thinning.
