The aim of this study is the development of a tool allowing the definition of realistic traffic scenarios. For this tasks an interactive prototype with a directly manipulable graphical user interface was implemented using an object-oriented approach. The traffic scenario definition is divided into four computer supported phases. After defining traffic streams, routes are computed using various algorithms. These routes can be optimized according to Wardrop's first and second principle (user- and system-optimum). These optimizations lead to a very realistic choice of routes. Single driver-vehicle-entities, which are used by the PROROAD traffic simulation system as an initial state, can be generated out of the traffic scenario. PROROAD simulates the behaviour of these driver-vehicle-entities in order to test different traffic management strategies and information architectures.
