The noise generated from a tyre becomes one of the domiannt sources of total traffic noise, since engine noise is constantly being reduced by vehicle manufacturers. Although acoustic intensity measurement technology has been enhance with the advent of recent developments in digital measurement techniques, repetitive measurements are necessary to find effective ways for noise control. Hence, the simulation method to predict a generated noise in required to get rid of time consuming experiments. The boundary element method is applied to predict acoustic radiation caused by a tyre sidewll vibration and its predictability is verified by an experiment. This method requires a geometry and the modal characteristics of a tyre which are calculated by the finite element method. Since the tyre design parameters are included in a finite element procedure such as a tyre profile, material damping, and constructions, one can evaluate how and where the design change affects acoustic radiation.
