System integration of real-time frequency-based simulation applications has long been a difficult and time-intensive task. A simulation application comprising several modules is often develoepd by different groups of programmes. Each simluation module needs to be executed of an application specific frequency and must complete its execution before it is scheduled again. When modules overrun their time constraints, the simulation needs to be adjusted. For the systems integator, this can often be a difficult process. Not only does the application need to be modified, it must be recompiled and relinked as well. Once this is done, the systems integrator must trace when each module executes, and whether the new scheduling scheme efficiently uses the dedicated processors. As long as there is a need to test varying configurations, the systems integrator will have to continually repeat this manual process. Concurrent facilitates the task of system integration through the use of a tool called the SIMulation Workbench (Sim WB). Through its window-based user interface, the SIMulation Workbench allows the integrator to configure, start, suspend, reconfigure, resume or stop the simaultion without the need to write a single line of code. A back end code generator automatically creates the required code that schedules the execution of the application's modules (written in C, FORTRAN or Ada). Any new modules that need to be added cause the SMUlation Workbench, to automatically generate new code and relink it with the other modules. By providing this kind of support, the SIMulation Workbench allows the systems integrator to concentrate on the simlation design without being burdened by low level coding. application.
