The contradictory demands to passenger cars of the following generation, for a better acceleration on the one hand and for les fuel consumption on the other hand can only be fulfilled by a better transmission engineering. For this better drive-line for passenger cars a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a wide spread ratio and an appropriate engine is necessary. Thus it is possible to reduce the acceleration time as well as the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions by more than 15 %. For passenger cars of the same accleration time, a 30 % reduction of fuel consumption can be expected comparing a conventional drive-line with a new drive-line using a wide spread continuously variable transmission. Also for hybrid-driven cars CVTs are of considerable advantage.
