My goal for this paper is to bring to light, to the industry at large, the story of how Plastic Media Blasting (PMB) has evolved and gone into service at two of the companies within the Lockheed Corporation, Lockheed Aircraft Service Company (LAS) and Lockheed Advanced Development Company (formerly Advanced Development Projects, otherwise known as the Skunk Works). It is my assessment that other than a small circle of Lockheed, customer and Pauli & Griffin personnel that Lockheed's exploits have gone largely unnoticed, some of it by design. This is especially true with regard to the work that has been going on at the Skunk Works for over 5 years. I've only recently been able to obtain permission to associate PMB with some of the unique products the Skunk Works produces. This report also covers the rapid progress LAS has made in adopting PMB culminating in a facility capable of accepting a complete C-130 airframe due to be operational by the end of April 1991.
