Airline transportation has become complex due to the competitive environment of deregulation, leveraged buyouts, and world traffic growth. The technology that may separate winners from losers is the ability to maintain the equipment used by the airline more efficiently. Revised processes supported by new integrated systems provide some new answers to this business for on-time maintenance, inventory reduction, record keeping and many essentials. Soon, maintenance technology will extend to the design of the airplane, itself making it 'smart' enough to aid in maintenance with minimum lost time and increased safety.
