A flexible parts identification system was introduced for underbody assembly manufacture in the ADAM OPEL Rüsselsheim body shop. Self-control of processing/machining equipment and transportation systems could be achieved. For identification an active data carrier attached to the conveyor system is used. Technical reasons did not allow to introduce direct parts identification which would have been the ideal solution. The parts identification is written on the active data carrier. All machines and equipment integrated in the production flow activate their working and transportation programs according to the individual product options. Bit-parallel data communication with the production equipment is used. This presentation deals with the total system function in the production flow of the floor assembly group. Exchange of signals with the diagnostic indication is described in detail.
