Increasing payloads on trucks and trailers, together with changing legislation for vehicle carrying capacities, are creating demand for trailers with multiple axles and widespread suspensions. The Self-Steering Axle eliminates tire scuffing on tight turns negotiated by these vehicles. It is a non-powered, self-centering axle that operates by natural trailing geometry and road friction. The self-steering axle (SSA) is self- contained and follows the direction of the vehicle with minimal resistance to side forces or scuffing, while carrying its full load capacity. The wheels align to the direction of travel using only road friction for actuation. The road friction is used to align the wheels instead of scuffing the tires.
