If structural composites are to realize their full potential in the automotive industry, cost-effective fabrication processes must be developed for the mass manufacturing of large, integrated, high-performance components. Liquid composite molding has the potential of being this process. No new discoveries are required to utilize this manufacturing technology; rather, the improvement of existing processes and their incorporation into an integrated manufcturing approach are needed. The high-volume manufacture of composite spare-tire covers is an illustration of successful implementation of this technology.
