Transport of fluid properties under gradients of concentration of mass and temperature may occur in entities with a specific shape. Experiments are described where continuously fed plumes and isolated vortex rings of high concentration (sodium sulfate, sodium chloride) propagate in solution in high and low g. The vortex ring slows much more rapidly than the starting plume, indicating a less efficient transport, as it carries an increasing volume of entrained fluid. It is suggested that inertial effects and buoyancy effects on vortex and plume propagation can be separated in the controlled environment of a space station borne centrifuge.
