The die casting industry's main efforts concentrate on productivity gains and quality improvement of castings. To serve those purposes, several monitoring systems appeared on the market which basically measure: Pressures, speeds, strokes and in some cases also temperatures. This technical paper describes a new system which monitors all relevant technological parameters that are of prime importance to casting quality. The system offers possibilities to accurately register even extremely short pressure peaks. P/Q-diagram calculations, in addition, allow quicker elimination of possible technological problems. The fully integrated quality control reduces the reject rate considerably and maintains a high constant quality level. Statistical quality control (SQS) is a must for sophisticated castings. Mainly the automotive industry insists on fully documented quality control for certain castings. The presented new system allows very economical and efficient solutions to this complicated and costly problem.
