Two-dimensional flow around a car configuration which is the mid section of the New Mazda RX-7, is computed by direct integration of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using finite-difference method. The basic equations described in a generalized coordinate system are discretized by a third-order upwind scheme without any turbulence models. The dependency of flow patterns, the drag and lift on the Reynolds number is investigated. Also, the effect of moving ground is analyzed in detail. It was found that the critical Reynolds number existed both with the fixed ground and with the moving ground, and the moving ground affected the wake of the car to creep on the ground and to be narrower as compared with the fixed ground.
