A large-scale national program to modernize the Italian army is nearing the pre-prototype hardware demonstration phase. The command, control, communications and intelligence system development and production are managed by a consortium of six of Italy's largest electronics companies to provide an advanced battlefield information system. CATRIN is designed to integrate a variety of information systems and sensor platforms, from armored vehicles, aerial drones and remotely piloted vehicles to attack helicopters. Tactical situation data for evaluation and decision making will be available through CATRIN at all levels of command up to corps, according to Italian consortium companies.
