A method for determining an optimal relay control of fuel consumption based on the application of Pontryagin's maximum principle is proposed. Use of the maximum principle only for determining the number of times the relay control is switched and of a forecasting-model relay control algorithm allows one to avoid the solution of the boundary problem. This leads to a reduction in the required operational speed of the computer and allows one to implement the method with limited computational means.
