In the context of causes and effects of electromagnetic interference from, and with, electrical and electronic equipment in motor vehicles, the work of the Emitech specialist laboratory at Montigny-Le-Bretonneux, with its outdoor test facility is described. Line drawings show the placement of dipoles around a vehicle at 10 m range to detect stray radiation; connections of an antenna within the cage to a signal analyser, computer and plotter; and a current transformer for sensing the interference induced on DC wiring. The Crawford chamber is depicted with a field strength meter placed on a horizontal strip line above the circuit under test, midway between horns coupled to an HF synthesizer-amplifier and a 50-ohm matched load. The problem of screening for tests at frequencies above 10 GHz is touched upon.
