Substantial gains in computer and workstation processing power, coupled with enhanced graphics capabilities and performance, are ushering military technology to new heights. As the DOD looks for most cost-effective methods to train its troops, simulation and training appear to be the most viable and affordable solutions. Some of the driving developments that have made simulated models even more desirable as training tools include recent improvements in hardware and software technology; specifically, greater speeds and performance, better simulation languages with newer database management systems, and improved graphics. These key improvements have coincided with the development of microprocessors and parallel processors.
