The author describes a transmitter which consists of a custom designed power supply/modulator/magnetron module to replace a laboratory system consisting of seven individual units. The module, constructed to airborne standards, has reduced the volume requirements for the overall transmitter from 1000 litres to 10 litres. The design gives excellent pulse shape and spectral quality. It is used in conjunction with a high quality polarimetric instrumentation radar, suitable for ground and airborne measurements.
