The history of the United States' Pacific Command system of command, control and communications is reviewed with reasons for its tendency to rely more heavily on fixed capabilities managed by the Defense Communications Agency. Upgrading of the system to enhance its survivability is described. New systems for direct support of tactical forces are listed, and efforts to secure both joint interoperability and combined interoperability are discussed.
