To help ensure on-time flight schedules, United Airlines implemented an automated electrified monorail (AEM) system that delivers replacement parts from a central storage area to waiting aircraft in less than 10 minutes. The AEM, supplied by the Jervis B. Webb Company, was installed in United's new 'Terminal of Tomorrow' at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The AEM helps to support United's national computerized aircraft maintenance program. The program, which utilises a central inventory parts computer, allows United to schedule and expedite maintenance for incoming flights or for aircraft docked at the gates.
