Over the last ten years Queensland Railways have experienced a massive expansion in the amount of overhead equipment installed and by mid 1989 will have approximately 2467 single track kilometres of 25 kV overhead catenary. It is important the QR should now concentrate on the most economical way of maintaining the catenary system. One such method which should reduce maintenance costs is a Track and Overhead Inspection and Recording car which is due for delivery later this year. Experience to date has shown that the catenary system installed should accommodate the traffic requirement of Queensland Railways for many years to come with a minimum of maintenance.
