The authors (1988) elsewhere have proposed a candidate, linear high-speed data bus (HSDB) protocol. This HSDB protocol includes a number of novel mechanizations to provide a dependable, deterministic interconnection service that will support high transfer rates while providing the low latencies required by future, distributed, avionics architectures operating in real-time environments. This candidate HSDB protocol is further explored with respect to projected system requirements for advanced avionics systems. Performance evaluations are investigated under a number of conditions including: changes in mission profiles requiring redistribution of bus bandwidth among the interconnected terminals; aperiodic traffic affecting data throughput and worst-case message latencies; and HSDB terminal anomalies and failures that must be tolerated to complete mission objectives.
