Describes the Shipboard Integrated Processing and Display System (SHINPADS) used in the Canadian Patrol Frigate (CPF). Paramax, the Unisys subsidiary serving as subcontractor in charge of the combat electronics implemented a system architecture based on the use of distributed data buses for command and control of the CPF's weapons systems. The heart of SHINPADS is a network of four cables which connect the ship's weapons systems and computers in a LAN configuration. The system can continue to function 100% after the loss of any two of the four cables, with the remaining two automatically reconfigured as a control line and a data line.
