A wide spectrum of AgSnO2 materials is investigated, made by three different methods. This shows that materials which are made by sieving and mixing of Ag and SnO2 powders with an admixture of certain additives and subsequent sintering and extrusion have the best characteristics. Additives of bismuth oxide and tungsten oxide are found to be particularly advantageous in switching lamps and motor loads, with respect to welding, erosion, material transfer and the formation of erosion beards. The aim is to find by further optimization, on the basis of these results, a material which can be considered a universal material for relays in motor vehicles.
