The authors describe new fire optic vibrational and acoustic sensor systems developed for airport ground traffic monitoring. The theoretical background of the extrinsisc Fabry-perot interferometer (EEPI) sensors is derived, and results of laboratory experiments as well as intial field tests in an experimental surface movement guidance and control system (ESMGCS) at the Braunschweig airport are reported.
