A summary of the architecture, essential sub-units and components, and measured results of a X-Band Transmit/Receive (T/R) module capable to operate in two orthogonal polarisations, alternatively, is presented. The available output power over the operating bandwidth is 4 W and the overall noise figure less than 3.9 dB. The magnitude of the RF signal is controlled by a variable gain amplifier (VGA) with more than 30 dB dynamic range. For phase setting a 6-bit phase shifter is implemented. The module realised with state-of-the-art technology is based on GaAs microwave monolithic integrated circuits (MMIC), monolithic silicon control devices (e.g. ASIC), and a multilayer substrate. These technologies have led to a T/R module with minimum size (70 mm x 30 mm x 20 mm) and low weight of only 67 g. An outlook to advanced components and technologies for high sophisticated T/R modules completes the paper.
