A hybrid integrated microsensor system was successfully realised with a sensor chip and an ASIC. The system detects the water content of the brake fluid and is able to monitor the degradation process. The accuracy was founded in the range of +/- 0.3 vol.-% for a known capacitance and in the range of +/- 0.6 vol.-% for a known conductance. These results leads to a calculated accuracy of 0.4 vol.-% for one type of brake fluid which make it possible to detect the critical water content of the brake fluid. So the microsystem is able to determine the quality, level and temperature of the brake fluid in a vehicle and thereby monitors the operational status of the brake system for optimised passengers safety.
