The use of SMPS in sensitive instrumentation equipment with conditioning of low-level sensor signals, high resolution A/D-conversion etc. can create significant problems, for example toggling of the LSB's in such kind of signal processing caused by noise and ripple or switched pulse currents. In addition, the conventional resonant soft switching converter types are no wide input voltage range ones, that means, for example, that it can happen that zero current or especially zero voltage switching is not achievable mainly at the upper end of the Vin range. The converter topology described here has a 6:1 input voltage range ratio, performs total soft switching (theoretically lossless for the switching transistors) at any operation condition, regardless, whether shortcircuit or no load. This converter is intended for use in low DC input level applications in EMI sensitive environment, for example battery or car on-board operated instrumentation equipment, diagnosis computers etc. Except for the first harmonics of the switching frequency, the electromagnetic radiation is very low, there is also no significant ripple current neither at the output nor at the input. It is possible to put a FM radio receiver in closest proximity to an unshielded converter and nothing or almost nothing can be heard.
