The authors have developed a new heat resistant plastic optical fiber (here in after referred to as heat resistant POF) which consists of copolymer of methylmethacrylate and iso-propylmaleimide for automobile data communication. They have tested and fully proved that this heat resistant POF has high temperature endurance up to 125 deg C and has good transparency and mechanical flexibility as same as POF consists of polymethylmethacrylate (here in after referred to as PMMA). Furthermore this heat resistant POF is certified to be the most suitable POF for automobile use as compared to other heat resistant POF by field test; actually mounting POFs to automobiles. In this paper, they will present characteristics of this heat resistant POF in more detail.
