VHDL is a flexible language that offers a broad application range in the simulation domain. But current state of the art simulation is limited to separated simulation of parts of complex heterogeneous systems. We present a technique for the co-simulation of hardware that is described using VHDL and software written in C, C++ and Samplambda e. First we give a brief introduction to this domain. The authors will then describe different simulation concepts and an interface between a C++ run-time system and a VHDL simulator. As a result, the authors are able to simulate complex systems using a sophisticated graphical interface. The proposed approach is demonstrated using an automotive subsystem as an application example.
