The Head Up Display (HUD) is the most important visual device in a modern fighter aircraft. It provides basic flight, navigation and guidance information to the pilot in the form of synthetic images. This paper discusses the 'HUD Image Development System' that was developed for an Aircraft Engineering Simulator. The complexity of the image development task and animation both in terms of computation and I/O necessitated the requirement of a multoprocessor system. The hardware and software issues associated with such a system have been discussed with emphasis on synchronization, deadlock and event ordering which are the commonly encountered problems in any multiprocessor system.
