Since the early 70's, the name of the game has been multinational collaboration for major European aerospace ventures. British Aerospace has been at the forefront of these with the Jaguar, Tornado, Airbus and, more recently, the European Fighter project. This added dimension, to what is already a highly complex and challenging field, has greatly increased the complexities of effective project management. BAe recognised that unless it acquired the best possible tools to support its project managers, the benefits of collaborative working could easily be squandered. The PROMIS system was developed as part of BAe's Overal Business Architecture, to meet the wide range and scale of aircraft projects in which the company is engaged. PROMIS is based on Metier's project management software Artemis, and over a period of time, has grown to become applicable to all types of activity from software development to massive construction programmes as well as the aircraft projects for which it was initially specified. It has been designed to support the gathering and analysis of programme and cost management information from the many participating organisations involved, and to be able to communicate the results in the multitude of forms required to satisfy the demand of customers, partners, sub-contractors and British Aerospace senior management.
