This paper will discuss the development of a 5 kW, 150 kHz, high voltage dc to dc Series Resonant Converter (SRC). The iteams to be discussed include; component selection, power stage design, control circuit, pulse drive circuitry, layout issues, and breadboard results. Parasitic issues which arise in high power, high voltage and high frequency operation of SRC's are also discussed. Breadboard results on the general operation, regulation, efficiency and projected power density are presented. The development of inductors, transformers, and the associated problems that were incurred with the 5 kW SRC are presented in detail. Techniques used to reduce the size, weight, and number of magnetic components are discussed.
