A fiber optic data bus according to DOD-STD-1773 (3) is implemented and tested in a TORNADO aircraft. The concept and structure of this data bus and of the monitor equipment are discussed. The experiment shall prove the airworthiness of the selected and laboratory tested components, as well as the reliability of the fiber optic data transmission in severe environments. For this purpose the light levels are monitored during flight and transmission errors are counted. Components, bus and monitor structure are described and test results are reported.
