The Advanced Fighter Technology Integration (AFTI)/F-16 Automated Maneuvering Attack System (AMAS) developmental and demonstration flight test was accomplished at the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC), Edwards Air Force Base, California, from September 1984 to March 1987, with two hundred twenty-six sorties totaling 332.5 flight hours flown. The flight tests were conducted by the AFTI/F-16 Joint Test Force, which was comprised of AFFTC, NASA-Ames Dryden, and General Dynamics personnel. The overall thrust of the flight test program was to develop automated guidance and control systems for air-to-ground and air-to-air weapon delivery. The test bed was an NF-16A S/N 75-750 which had been modified with an asynchronous digital flight control system, dual avionics multiplex buses, an advanced forward looking infrared sensor-laser ranger, integrated flight/fire control software, advanced cockpit displays/interfaces, and modified core MSIP avionics. This paper presents a summary of final flight test results of the AMAS air-to-ground system, and its associated technologies.
