Current X-SAR status is presented corresponding to the results of the design study performed in 1985/86 by German and Italian industry on behalf of their Ministries of Research and Technology. The X-SAR will fly in a joint mission with NASA's Shuttle Imaging Radar (SIR-C) in 1990, providing the first multispectral/dual-polarized spaceborne SAR experiment. This paper outlines the relations to SIR-C, then concentrates on the current design and performance status of X-SAR. The mechanical and electrical configurations are described, and the results of performance prediction analysis is compared to the aimed values.
