The efficiency of a transportation system is for a customer mainly determined speed and costs. Both criteria are influenced by a rational use of transportation vehicles. A high transportation speed is guaranteed by a high velocity of the used vehicles and a transportation process free from troubles. In order to master the increasing demand on transportation services a transportation agency will take into consideration the use of several transfer vehicles operating simultaneously. Due to the difficulties in coordination the achieved increase will fail expectations. Quick transportation by means of simultaneous use of several vehicles however is possible using a powerful control system. The profitable use of a slightly modified Branch and Bound procedure is illustrated by applying it to a real transfer system within the intermodal traffic.
