This paper will present both simulation as well as experimental results that prove the operation, performance and fuel economy of an electrically assisted boosting system based on Eaton's TVS Supercharger. The system is aimed at supporting aggressive engine downsizing and downspeeding by producing high amounts of engine boost at low engine speeds while allowing for use of regenerated energy for boosting, running accessories and starting the engine. Test results indicate significant improvement in vehicle performance and fuel economy.
