The energy supply of textile integrated electronic systems is a challenge, because mobility, wear comfort, and stability have to be ensured. The flexibility, affectionate nature, and strechability of textiles are determining factors of the wear comfort. Until now, batteries are only adapted on textiles, but they are not optimized for ergometric aspects. The freedom of movement is limited not only by their high weigth. Flexible batteries will have a huge impact on these aspects, but they are on development stage. A textile based, flexible battery is developed in the joint research project Texbatt (BMBF, 16SV6092). The textile material provides the power supply of textile integrated arealuminous displays in clothes using the example of safety-related luminescent textiles. The target of the project is a reliable autarkic power supply of OLED/ LED displays in clothing by textile based batteries, which are rechargeable by inductive coupling. Basic research of manufacturing processes and optimization of single components are investigated by two research institutes in collaboration with partners from industry. The results will be integrated in the development of manufacturing processes and in the testings of the devices in usage. Key aspects of the project are the realization of a silver zinc cell by weaving technology using modified electrical conductive thread materials in combination with a UV curable electrolyte based on ionic liquids as well as the development and integration of OLED modules and their control unit in clothing. Single components were developed in the last one and a half year. Now they will be combined in laboratory scale, and their individual functions and their interactions with the other system devices have to be analyzed, respectively. Different testings of the components are realized during the whole project. The business of the next one and a half year is the further optimization of the components and their combination as well as the development of a demonstrator using the example of safety textiles. Furthermore, the recharging of the textile battery will be realized by inductive coupling. Selected results of the project work are shown on the poster.
