In order to achieving better side emitting effects from plastic optical fibers for smart Itextiles, the two methods, namely abrasion by sand papers and burning by laser, effects on lumilance and chromatics after being abrased and lasered for smart textile are researched. The relationship between side-emitting intensity and demages of POF was explored via simulation experiments. The deepening of damage of the optical fibers' cortices was achieved through increasing friction or burning times, and the luminance and chromatical changes of optical fibers with different friction times were measured. The results show that when demages increase, the luminance of optical fibers is higher, but the luminance decays faster, on the contrary, the luminance is lower and the luminance decays more slowly; when the optical fibers were demaged with the same friction times, different luminance of color light decay closely, but the luminance of higher luminance color light decay faster a little than the luminance of lower luminance color light. Saturation of colorful fiber is lower then the light source; with increasing distance from the light-emitting region of each optical fiber, red light is gradually and slightly changing the direction into blue hue, the blue light is slightly turning to greenish hue, light green hue is slightly turning to the yellow direction; different monochromatic light inside the fiber can mix well. Significantly, it was just right for designing side-illuminating POF fabric with the effect the luminance and chromatical changes based on the abrasion or laser methods.
