The new V10 high speed engine with dual injection in the Huracan fits the long Lamborghini tradition of impressive high-performance engines and sets new standards for naturally aspirated engines in terms of dynamics and performance. Over the course of development, the characteristics of the powertrain were further improved through detailed optimisation. The gas exchange components and vehicle side air ducts were revised to reduce further the intake pressure losses. Performance was increased to 117 hp/l at 8250 rpm and 108 Nm/l at 6500 rpm, while fuel consumption and particulate emissions were reduced. The introduction of dual injection - a combination of port fuel injection and the Audi FSI direct injection system - is a significant contributor. Port fuel injection has a positive effect on particulate emissions and contributes to an increase in full load torque over extensive parts of the speed range. The challenges that arise from dual injection include the definition of the operating strategy and a fuel injection mode switching strategy which minimises mixture deviations even under highly dynamic load conditions. Dual injection required the introduction of a new powerful generation of Bosch MED 17.1.1 engine control units in master/slave configuration. The dynamic behaviour of the powertrain has been optimised to an impressive extent by innovative software strategies for the cylinder charge computation, which is reflected in the spontaneity at high speed. The new V10 engine powers the Lamborghini Huracan's masterful driving performance - the vehicle reaches the 100 km/h mark around 0.5 s ahead of its predecessor and reaches 200 km/h a whole 1.9 s sooner. The new V10 engine guarantees a fascinating driving experience thanks to the unique high speed characteristics of its naturally aspirated engine.
