The most efficient usage of energy and parking areas for individual traffic is highly desired. In project MEHREN there is a new concept for an energy and space efficient passenger car driven by two electric in-wheel drives at the rear axle. A new drive concept generates new functions and possible malfunctions. This paper describes a road vehicle simulation, which is used to estimate the failure and malfunction effects. The results of the simulation are furthermore used for hazard analysis. Matlab/Simulink is used as simulation environment for high customization level and easy model exchange between project participants. The vehicle model is designed as a modified two-track-model which gives a compromise between accuracy and effort. Modification means the implementation of a suspension system to calculate the vertical tire forces and furthermore the roll and pitch movement of the chassis. Besides, TMeasy Model is used for calculation of the tire reaction forces. The computed vehicle model is then evaluated by the vehicle simulation software veDYNA. The simulation results can then predict the vehicle behavior through failure injection. Effects of different failures or malfunction can be classified in ASIL (automotive safety integrity level) for severity and controllability.
