The term platform strategy describes the use of common parts that can be installed simultaneously in several vehicle models from one manufacturer. Thus, synergy effects can be used, by inserting also complex components, in different vehicle models. This kind of strategy is mostly used in the automotive industry, illustrated by the example of the Volkswagen AG. Platform strategy means, that by looking behind the scenes, in this case looking behind the bodywork of different models, you can see that they are using the same components. A platform includes parts like front axle, steering and motor, as well as longitudinal beam, floor and rear axle. For example, the VW Golf is running on a platform, whose important parts are identical to the parts and components of their subsidiary models.
