In recent years the research towards the electric mobility has been promoted clearly to develop newer and especially more efficient technologies for the modern ecological vehicle of the future. Within the framework of FORELMO, Bavarian research cooperation for electric mobility, a research project was launched, which is dedicated to the electric powertrain superficially. The subproject I.1 of FORELMO is dealing with the inductive energy transfer and the following energy supply of an electrically excited synchronous machine (EESM) of an electric vehicle. This contactless method will assume the function of the conventional slip ring unit to reduce the mechanical wear to almost zero. The base for this investigation is the previous study of subproject I.1. Its content deals with the description of the functionality, the design and first simulations of a CLL resonant converter with regard to the desired application of subproject I.1. Thereby, an occurred problem is the insufficiently reduction of the excitation voltage caused by the voltage frequency response function of the CLL resonant converter. Its design achieves a high dynamics, but the aspirated excitation current range of 3 A ... 16 A cannot be adjusted for the whole input voltage range of 250 V ... 400 V. There are different possibilities to fulfill this requirement. These include the phase shift mode, the controlled burst mode, the increase of the resonant inductance and the control of the input voltage of the CLL resonant converter by a buck converter.
