The current situation in tool making is characterized by enormous expenditure in cost and time in tool making. This is caused by an increasing variety of variants and faster product changes. 30 percent of the tool cost arise in mechanical processing and an additional 30 percent in try-out. A significant requirement is the reduction of the machine busy times. In addition to organizational measures, improved dynamics of the large processing machines involved can above all result in time-saving potentials of approximately 30 percent. In this contribution, the kinematic and machine-dynamic parameters necessary for a time reduction on the intended scale are derived based on an analysis method. Subsequently, a new kinematic design principle and significant components are described. The contribution is completed by aspects of cutting tool design which allow for a significant increase in feed rate.
