To research the electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the car shell surface current, a simulation method is proposed in this paper, taking the surface current from the automotive ignition system electromagnetic radiation (EMR) for example. The method is based on the interface condition theory and skin effect. In high-frequency, the shell current is mainly distributed on the body surface, and body surface magnetic field is approximated as the same value as the surface current density. Then, an automotive ignition system EMR emission model is established in HFSS software. Finally, the surface current density distribution and its effect on the radiation field are simulated and analysed. By analysing the characteristics of the surface current density distribution, some proposals can be obtained for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design.
