The main purpose of this study was to investigate and understand how to reduce negative effects of car blind area and find a method to ensure the safety of vehicle. We designed a system to implement these functions. The system is based on AT89S52 MCU, and it uses the infrared sensors, ultrasonic sensors, buzzer, and LED lamp to implement the detection of object and pedestrian in the driver's blind area in time, and dispose the detected information by AT89S52 MCU. The ultrasonic sensor can detect objects and people at a certain range, and the infrared sensors can detect people or other animals under the car or behind the car. When danger may happens, the buzzer alarms and LED lights to remind the driver to take relevant measures. Experiments showed that the system can perform well to show whether there is people or objects in blind areas. It improves the safety of driving and ensures the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The system belongs to the technology of active safety and it provides many advantages, including flexibility, extensibility, implementation simplicity, and cost savings.
