This paper presents a statistical sequential analysis method with which signals collected from industrial gPlMS installations over time can be consistently and objectively analyzed in order to ascertain the presence of signal changes caused by the growth of damage. Furthermore, it has been shown that this method can be used to consistently and objectively model the sensitivity of gPIMS sensors to signal changes, and therefore to damage, at all positions along a pipe including at features. Importantly, this statistical method operates under prescribed probabilities of detecting damage should it be present and of detecting damage should there be none, i.e. false-calling. Finally, although developed and exemplified for industrial gPIMS installations, this method can be readily tailored for use in all other SHM and NDE scenarios which involve the gathering of repeat measurements or signals, including baseline subtraction scenarios.
