In this study a multi-objective optimization workflow has been developed: to reduce wiper system reversal noise by system optimization; to investigate cause-effect relationships by sensitivity analysis; to investigate robustness of proposed solutions. The workflow consists of three parts: a first part where the wiper system input influencing factors are considered; a second part where the wiper system reversal noise is evaluated for the given inputs; a final part where an optimization loop minimizes the wiper system reversal noise with respect to the given input parameter and within the given constraints. The presented workflow is applied for the development of low noise wiper rubber profiles. This study presented an application case where the wiper system reversal noise is reduced by a mechatronic approach, i.e. by using the Bosch new generation wiper drive electronics to ensure a reversal noise optimized wiping movement.
